SBI can update the schedule through its careers page. Exact preliminary and main days should come from the official recruitment card and each candidate's call letter, not from a coaching calendar.

The selection process has:

  1. Online preliminary examination.
  2. Online main examination.
  3. Local language proficiency test where the certificate exemption does not apply.

There is no interview listed for this recruitment. It differs from SBI PO 2026, which has a psychometric test, group exercise and personal interview.

Application, fees and eligibility

Applications are open only online from August 11 through 31.

Applicant category Fee
SC, ST, PwBD, XS and DXS Nil
General, OBC and EWS INR 750

Fees are non-refundable. The official application portal should be reached from the SBI recruitment card.

Core conditions include:

  • Age from 20 through 28 as of April 1, subject to published relaxations.
  • Graduation in any discipline or an equivalent Central Government-recognised qualification by December 31, 2026.
  • Application for vacancies in one state or union territory only.
  • One appearance under this recruitment project.
  • Proficiency in the opted local language for the selected state or union territory.

Candidates with an integrated dual degree must ensure their passing date is on or before December 31. Final-year candidates can use the notification's result-date conditions but must prove the qualification when required.

SBI states that Junior Associates recruited in this exercise do not have an ordinary inter-circle or interstate transfer route before five years of service. Applicants should therefore treat the state choice as more than a test-centre preference.

For other recruitment routes, see IBPS CSA-XVI, IBPS PO/MT-XVI, and call-centre English assessment.

How to read the 7,967 vacancy total

The official table separates vertical category vacancies from horizontal reservations.

Vacancy line Published total
Regular category vacancies 7,680
Vertical SC, ST and OBC backlog vacancies 287
Base vacancy total 7,967

The 7,680 regular vacancies consist of:

Regular category Vacancies
SC 1,114
ST 837
OBC 1,716
EWS 760
General 3,253
Total 7,680

The backlog category row adds 58 SC, 161 ST and 68 OBC vacancies, totalling 287.

PwBD, ex-serviceman and disabled ex-serviceman counts are horizontal reservations included within parent categories. Adding their 355 and 1,444 totals again would double-count positions.

SBI calls every vacancy figure provisional. Merit lists are state-wise and category-wise, and candidature remains tied to the selected state or union territory.

Preliminary English pattern

The online preliminary exam has three separately timed objective sections.

Preliminary section Questions Marks Time
English Language 30 30 20 minutes
Numerical Ability 35 35 20 minutes
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 minutes
Total 100 100 60 minutes

English accounts for 30% of preliminary questions and marks. An even pace allows 40 seconds per question.

SBI says no minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for an individual preliminary test or the aggregate score. It also says section-wise marks will not be maintained.

Candidates are arranged by aggregate score, and approximately ten times the category vacancies may be shortlisted for the main examination, subject to availability.

That rule differs from IBPS CSA, which states that candidates qualify in each of its three preliminary tests. It also differs from SSC CGL English, SSC Stenographer English, and SSC Combined Hindi Translators.

Main General English pattern

The online main exam has four separately timed objective sections.

Main section Questions Marks Time
General and Financial Awareness 50 50 35 minutes
General English 40 40 35 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 50 50 45 minutes
Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude 50 60 45 minutes
Total 190 200 160 minutes

General English is about 21% of main questions, 20% of main marks and 22% of test time. Forty questions in 35 minutes allow an average of 52.5 seconds per question.

SBI requires a minimum aggregate main score. It does not prescribe an individual-subject minimum and says section-wise marks are not maintained.

Only aggregate main marks are used for the state-wise and category-wise final merit list. Preliminary performance disappears after shortlisting.

For general language development, use English speaking and writing skills, English vocabulary and speaking skills, and beginner speaking mistakes. SBI information booklets remain the source for exam question styles.

Negative marking and cut-offs

SBI deducts one quarter of the marks assigned to an objective question for a wrong answer. A blank answer has no penalty.

Example Assigned value Wrong-answer deduction
Preliminary English 1 mark 0.25 mark
Main General English 1 mark 0.25 mark
Unanswered question Any 0

The two English sections happen to assign one mark per item. Other main sections can use different mark values, so their deduction follows the assigned value.

The cut-off structure is aggregate-based:

  • No published individual-section or aggregate minimum in prelims.
  • Preliminary shortlisting still depends on ranking high enough by aggregate marks.
  • The main exam has a minimum aggregate percentage decided by SBI.
  • SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, XS and DXS candidates receive a five-percentage-point relaxation on the stated aggregate requirement.

No formal minimum does not mean every score progresses. Vacancy volume and ranking determine the preliminary shortlist.

Local language proficiency test pattern

Applicants choose one language for their selected state or union territory. They must be able to read, write, speak and understand it.

A Class 10 or 12 mark sheet or certificate showing that the specified language was studied provides the published exemption. Otherwise, a provisionally selected candidate must take the test before joining.

The 2026 notification publishes more detail than a generic "language test" label:

LLPT component Pattern Passages Questions Marks
Non-verbal Objective 3 15 15
Non-verbal Subjective 3 15 15
Verbal Spoken component Not specified in table Not specified in table 20
Total Mixed At least 6 published 30 published written items 50

SBI decides minimum qualifying marks in the individual test. The listed reserved and ex-serviceman categories receive a five-percentage-point relaxation.

Failure means no appointment. The local language centre can be in the state applied for and attended at the candidate's own expense.

SpeakShark does not test every listed Indian language. For English communication only, practise office small talk, English speaking topics for adults, or practice English speaking alone. Start free English speaking practice without treating it as an LLPT simulator.

What counts in final selection

Preliminary marks do not enter final selection. SBI uses aggregate main-exam marks for the state-wise and category-wise merit list.

The sequence is:

  1. Rank high enough on aggregate preliminary marks.
  2. Reach the main aggregate minimum decided by SBI.
  3. Rank high enough within the chosen state and category.
  4. Receive provisional selection.
  5. Prove local-language study or qualify the LLPT.
  6. Complete document and eligibility checks before appointment.

Eligible trained SBI apprentices can receive five bonus marks in the main aggregate. The notification limits this to apprentices meeting the specified engagement date, one-year branch experience, performance and certification conditions.

There is no interview score to combine with the main result. Advice for HireVue interview questions or English job interview role plays may help elsewhere but does not alter Junior Associate merit.

How to check call letters and exact dates

Use the official route:

  1. Open SBI Careers and choose Current Openings.
  2. Find advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17.
  3. Expand the Junior Associate Customer Support and Sales card.
  4. Use its official application or call-letter link.
  5. Expect the preliminary call letter about ten days before the assigned date.
  6. Verify the September date, reporting time, venue and permitted documents.
  7. Keep the authenticated preliminary call letter and ID-proof copy for the main exam.
  8. If shortlisted, repeat the process for the November main call letter.

No hard copy is sent by post. Keep the registered email address and mobile number active.

Registration, call-letter and result portals have different purposes. An application confirmation is not permission to attend without the valid call letter.

How we researched this guide

On August 28, 2026, we opened SBI's current-openings page through the existing browser profile and found advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17. We downloaded the English detailed advertisement and checked the live application portal.

The advertisement supplied the September and November timing, both English tables, the negative-marking rule, state-based merit, local-language test pattern and full vacancy table. We summed 7,680 regular and 287 vertical backlog vacancies while preserving horizontal reservations as included rather than additional.

We did not invent exact exam days before SBI published them, copy protected questions, predict cut-offs or use SpeakShark customer data.

We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with SBI, IBPS, the Government of India or any exam board. For test format, booking and official practice material, go to the exam body directly. Use SpeakShark to make your spoken English stronger, and use official material to learn the test.
