IBPS CSA 2026 exam timeline
The January IBPS calendar gives exact examination dates. The August detailed notification supplies the month-level call-letter, result and allotment sequence.
| CRP CSA-XVI stage | Official schedule |
|---|---|
| Extended registration and fee deadline | August 28, 2026 |
| Pre-examination training | September 2026, tentative |
| Preliminary call letter | September 2026, tentative |
| Preliminary examination | October 10 and 11, 2026 |
| Preliminary result | November 2026, tentative |
| Main call letter | November 2026, tentative |
| Main examination | December 27, 2026 |
| Provisional allotment | March 2027, tentative |
The exact October and December dates come from the official CRP calendar. The detailed notification describes the examinations only by month, so candidates should use the calendar for planning and the later call letter for their assigned shift, reporting time and venue.
IBPS reserves the right to change dates for administrative reasons, court orders or government advisories. Treat a call letter as the final personal instruction, not as a replacement for eligibility checks.
The vacancies are for the 2027-28 cycle even though applications and examinations occur in 2026. CRP CSA-XVI is therefore the most reliable search term.
CSA is the current name, not Clerk
IBPS calls this post Customer Service Associate, abbreviated CSA. The organisation still hosts CSA-XVI under a page titled Clerical Cadre XVI, which explains why candidates and older websites continue to use "IBPS Clerk."
These labels should not be mixed carelessly:
| Label | How to use it in 2026 |
|---|---|
| CRP CSA-XVI | Official recruitment-process identifier |
| Customer Service Associate | Official post name in the notification |
| Clerical Cadre XVI | IBPS website category containing the official notices |
| IBPS Clerk | Older and common search term, not the notification title |
Using the current name matters because CSA-XVI has its own dates, pattern, state or union territory choice and local-language condition. It is not the IBPS PO process, and it should not be confused with the separate SBI Junior Associate recruitment.
Application window, fees and eligibility
The detailed notification originally set registration and fee payment from August 1 through 21. An official August 21 corrigendum extended both through August 28, 2026. All other notification conditions remained unchanged.
| Application event | Current date |
|---|---|
| Online registration opens | August 1, 2026 |
| Extended registration closes | August 28, 2026 |
| Extended online fee payment closes | August 28, 2026 |
| Last date to print the application | September 12, 2026 |
The application portal lists the following original notification fees:
| Candidate category | Fee including GST |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, PwBD, ESM and DESM | INR 175 |
| All others | INR 850 |
Bank transaction charges are additional. Submission does not prove eligibility, because IBPS and the allotted bank can scrutinise documents later.
The core conditions include:
- Age from 20 to 28 as of August 1, subject to published relaxations.
- A recognised degree in any discipline or equivalent Central Government recognition.
- Operating and working knowledge of computer systems under the notification's listed routes.
- Proficiency in the selected local language for the chosen state or union territory.
- An application for vacancies in only one state or union territory.
The original detailed notification uses August 21 for qualification and certificate cut-offs. The extension corrigendum says all other terms remain unchanged, so candidates should not assume the August 28 registration extension also moved every eligibility date.
For broader job-assessment context, see call-centre English assessment, iMocha AI-EnglishPro, and TCS and Cognizant communication tests. None replaces the official CSA notice.
Preliminary English pattern
The preliminary examination contains three separately timed objective tests.
| Preliminary test | Questions | Marks | Time | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 minutes | English |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes | State-specific bilingual options |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 minutes | State-specific bilingual options |
| Total | 100 | 100 | 60 minutes | Mixed |
English represents 30% of preliminary questions and marks. Its average pace is 40 seconds per question if time is divided evenly.
Candidates must qualify in each test by reaching the cut-off decided by IBPS. A strong total cannot compensate for missing the English sectional cut-off.
The preliminary stage is for shortlisting. Its marks do not enter provisional-allotment merit.
The October call letter and information handout may add operational instructions. Candidates should verify keyboard, login, identity-document and venue requirements rather than importing rules from SSC CGL, SSC Stenographer, or SSC Combined Hindi Translators.
Main General English pattern
The main examination contains four separately timed objective tests.
| Main test | Questions | Marks | Time | Medium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General and Financial Awareness | 40 | 50 | 20 minutes | State-specific bilingual options |
| General English | 40 | 40 | 35 minutes | English |
| Reasoning Ability | 40 | 60 | 35 minutes | State-specific bilingual options |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 50 | 35 minutes | State-specific bilingual options |
| Total | 160 | 200 | 125 minutes | Mixed |
General English is 25% of main questions, 20% of main marks and 28% of testing time. Forty questions in 35 minutes provide an average of 52.5 seconds per question.
Unlike the IBPS PO English pattern, CSA-XVI does not list a descriptive Essay and Comprehension paper. It also does not list a personality test or interview after the main examination.
That distinction changes preparation priorities. CSA candidates need objective English accuracy under a sectional timer, then enough total main marks for state or union-territory merit.
General language development can include English speaking and writing skills, beginner speaking mistakes, and English vocabulary and speaking skills. The exam format and question style should come from IBPS information handouts and mock tests.
Negative marking and cut-offs
IBPS applies negative marking to both preliminary and main objective tests. A wrong answer deducts one quarter of the marks assigned to that question. A blank answer receives no penalty.
| English example | Assigned value | Wrong-answer deduction |
|---|---|---|
| Preliminary English question | 1 mark | 0.25 mark |
| Main General English question | 1 mark | 0.25 mark |
| Unanswered question | 1 mark | 0 mark |
English happens to use one mark per question in both CSA stages, so its deduction is straightforward. Other main sections can assign different mark values, and their penalty follows the assigned value rather than a universal flat amount.
IBPS decides the preliminary sectional cut-offs. In the main examination, candidates need a minimum score in each test and a minimum total score to remain under consideration.
A practical order is:
- Protect the 20-minute preliminary and 35-minute main English timers.
- Complete high-confidence questions first.
- Leave an item blank when no option can be eliminated reliably.
- Review only while the English sectional timer remains active.
- Track both sectional accuracy and total main performance.
Do not use a coaching site's predicted cut-off as an official threshold. IBPS sets cut-offs using the process and vacancies.
Local language proficiency test
The local language requirement is separate from the English sections. Applicants choose one language from the list for their selected state or union territory and must be proficient in:
- Reading.
- Writing.
- Speaking.
- Understanding.
A candidate who provides a Class 10 or higher mark sheet or certificate showing that the specified language was studied does not have to take the test under the notification.
Otherwise, the Local Language Proficiency Test is conducted after the candidate qualifies in the main examination or receives provisional allotment, but before joining the bank. An independent body or the allotted bank can conduct it. It is marks-based and qualifying.
Failure means the candidate is not offered appointment. This makes the local-language condition a genuine selection gate, not a formality added after merit.
SpeakShark provides general English conversation, not testing in every listed Indian language. For spoken English confidence, try job interview role plays, office small talk, or English speaking topics for adults. Start free speaking practice only for the English side of communication.
What counts in final allotment
Preliminary marks are not used for final merit. The notification states that marks obtained in the online main examination alone are considered for final merit listing.
The sequence is:
- Clear each preliminary test cut-off.
- Reach the main sectional and total thresholds.
- Rank sufficiently high within the selected state or union territory.
- Receive provisional allotment based on merit and preference.
- Prove local-language proficiency through a certificate or qualifying test.
- Complete the allotted bank's document and eligibility verification.
The main exam has 200 raw marks, converted out of 100 for provisional allotment. Vacancies in the notification are indicative. IBPS uses actual vacancies later reported by participating banks and applies reservation and administrative rules.
There is no published CSA interview stage in this sequence. Advice for HireVue interviews or how to pass a HireVue interview is therefore unrelated to CSA merit, although it may help with other employers.
How to check call letters and results
Use the official route rather than a search-result headline:
- Open the Clerical Cadre XVI page on the IBPS website.
- Read notices in date order, including later corrigenda.
- Download the preliminary call letter when the September link appears.
- Verify the assigned October date, shift, reporting time and venue.
- Use the result link published on the same official page in November.
- Download the main call letter only through the official candidate portal.
- Check the December 27 instructions and required authenticated documents.
- Monitor the page through the March 2027 provisional-allotment stage.
Registration, call-letter, result and allotment links serve different functions. A successful application login is not a call letter, and a preliminary qualification notice is not final allotment.
The questions to ask before booking an English test uses the same source discipline. For general practice, try a free speaking-level check, practice speaking alone, or review English speaking apps for India jobs.
How we researched this guide
On August 28, 2026, we opened the official Clerical Cadre XVI page through the existing browser profile. We downloaded the August 1 detailed CSA-XVI notification and the August 21 registration-extension corrigendum. We also checked the live application portal and the January 16 CRP calendar.
The calendar supplied exact October 10 and 11 preliminary dates and the December 27 main date. The detailed notification supplied the English structures, sectional timers, penalty, merit rule and local-language process. The corrigendum established the extended August 28 deadline without moving the other notification conditions.
We calculated English's share of questions, marks and test time from the official tables. We did not use coaching predictions, copy protected questions, invent cut-offs or use SpeakShark customer data.
We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with IBPS, participating banks, the Government of India or any exam board. For test format, booking and official practice material, go to the exam body directly. Use SpeakShark to make your spoken English stronger, and use official material to learn the test.

Customer Service Associate is the current official post name. IBPS still places the process under its Clerical Cadre section, and older searches often say IBPS Clerk, but the 2026 notification calls the recruitment CRP CSA-XVI. Use that identifier when checking notices, dates, call letters and results.
The preliminary English Language test has 30 questions worth 30 marks and a separate 20-minute timer. Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability each have 35 questions and 35 marks in 20 minutes. Candidates must clear the cut-off set by IBPS in each of the three preliminary tests.
The main General English test has 40 questions worth 40 marks and a separate 35-minute timer. The full main exam contains 160 questions worth 200 marks in 125 minutes. There is no descriptive English paper or interview listed in the CRP CSA-XVI selection structure.
Yes. IBPS deducts one quarter of the marks assigned to an objective question when an answer is wrong. An unanswered question has no penalty. Because each English question is worth one mark in both stages, one wrong English answer ordinarily deducts 0.25 mark under the published structure.
Yes. Applicants must be able to read, write, speak and understand one specified local language for their chosen state or union territory. A qualifying local language test occurs after the main exam or provisional allotment but before joining, unless an eligible Class 10 or higher certificate proves that the candidate studied that language.
