IBPS SO 2026 exam timeline

The January IBPS calendar supplies the exact written dates. The detailed notification supplies the month-level result and interview sequence.

CRP SPL-XVI event Official schedule or status
Registration and fee payment July 1 to 21, closed
Preliminary call letter Published August 20
Preliminary information handout Published August 20
Preliminary examination August 29, 2026
Preliminary result October 2026, tentative
Main call letter October 2026, tentative
Main examination November 1, 2026
Main result November 2026, tentative
Common interview November or December 2026, tentative
Provisional allotment January 2027, tentative

The recruitment is for vacancies in the 2027-28 financial cycle even though both written examinations occur in 2026.

IBPS can revise dates through later notices. The candidate's preliminary call letter controls the assigned centre, reporting time and session on August 29.

This slot replaces a proposed UPSC EPFO article because the live UPSC recruitment and examination pages did not contain a 2026 EPFO recruitment-test notice. CRP SPL-XVI has an official notification, call letter, handout and next-day exam date, so it is the stronger current intent.

Six posts share one recruitment

CRP SPL-XVI covers:

  1. IT Officer Scale I.
  2. Agriculture Field Officer Scale I.
  3. Rajbhasha Adhikari Scale I.
  4. Law Officer Scale I.
  5. HR or Personnel Officer Scale I.
  6. Marketing Officer Scale I.

Candidates could apply for only one post. Multiple applications were subject to rejection.

All posts share English and Reasoning. The remaining preliminary aptitude test changes by post group:

Post group Third preliminary test
IT, Agriculture, HR and Marketing Quantitative Aptitude
Law and Rajbhasha General Awareness with Special Reference to Banking Industry

Every group also has a 25-question Professional Knowledge test worth 50 marks in prelims.

This is not the IBPS PO process or IBPS CSA process. Specialist Officer candidates face professional knowledge from the first written stage.

Application and fee record

The application window is closed.

Application event Official date
Online registration July 1 to 21, 2026
Online fee payment July 1 to 21, 2026
Two-day edit window Notified after registration
Candidate category Fee including GST
SC, ST and PwBD INR 175
All others INR 850

Bank transaction charges were additional. Submission did not establish final eligibility.

Each post has its own academic qualification, including subject, degree or professional requirements. A candidate should verify the exact post row rather than assume a general bachelor's degree works for all six roles.

For other employer assessments, see iMocha AI-EnglishPro, TCS and Cognizant communication tests, and call-centre English assessment. Those formats do not replace CRP SPL rules.

Preliminary English pattern for all posts

The August 20 information handout confirms the four-section preliminary structure.

Preliminary test Questions Marks Time Medium
English Language 25 25 20 minutes English
Reasoning 25 25 20 minutes English and Hindi
Quantitative Aptitude or Banking Awareness 25 25 20 minutes English and Hindi
Professional Knowledge 25 50 20 minutes English and Hindi
Total 100 125 80 minutes Mixed

English represents 25% of questions, 20% of marks and 25% of the testing time. An even pace allows 48 seconds per English question.

Candidates must qualify each of the four tests. The current handout also says candidates need the minimum total score to remain under consideration for the main exam.

Professional Knowledge carries twice the marks per question of the other sections. A candidate cannot repair a failed English cut-off with high professional marks, because qualification is sectional.

The SSC CGL English guide, SSC Stenographer guide, and RBI Grade B guide demonstrate why generic government-exam advice is unreliable across different timers and cut-off rules.

Main English and post-specific patterns

Every post has the same main English section:

Main English property Published value
Questions 30
Marks 30
Duration 25 minutes
Medium English

The complete main pattern for IT, Agriculture, HR and Marketing is:

Main test Questions Marks Time
English Language 30 30 25 minutes
Reasoning 40 40 35 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude 30 30 25 minutes
Professional Knowledge objective 50 100 40 minutes
Total 150 200 125 minutes

Law and Rajbhasha replace Quantitative Aptitude with 30 questions of banking awareness worth 30 marks in 20 minutes. Their Professional Knowledge objective test has 50 questions worth 100 marks in 45 minutes.

Main English has one mark per question and an average pace of 50 seconds per item. It is qualifying rather than the core merit score. The notification states that main tests other than Professional Knowledge are qualifying, while merit listing uses Professional Knowledge.

General language work can include English vocabulary and speaking skills, English speaking and writing skills, and beginner speaking mistakes. IBPS handouts remain the format source.

Law and Rajbhasha descriptive papers

Law Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari have an additional main descriptive paper after their objective tests.

Post Descriptive subject Questions Marks Time Medium
Law Officer English descriptive paper 2 25 30 minutes English
Rajbhasha Adhikari Professional Knowledge descriptive paper 2 25 30 minutes English and Hindi

The main session for those posts therefore totals 225 marks and 155 minutes.

The notification does not publish fixed writing prompts in the table. Candidates should use the main information handout when released rather than assume an essay, precis or legal-drafting format from an older cycle.

The English descriptive paper for Law Officer is separate from the 30-question objective English section. It should not be counted as another 25 objective items.

Negative marking and cut-offs

IBPS deducts one quarter of the marks assigned to an objective question for a wrong answer in prelims and mains. A blank response has no penalty.

Example Assigned value Wrong-answer deduction
Preliminary English 1 mark 0.25 mark
Preliminary Professional Knowledge 2 marks 0.50 mark
Main English 1 mark 0.25 mark
Main Professional Knowledge objective 2 marks 0.50 mark
Blank answer Any 0

The penalty is proportional, not a universal flat 0.25 across every test.

A practical order is:

  1. Protect each sectional timer.
  2. Clear all four preliminary test thresholds.
  3. Avoid unsupported guesses, especially in two-mark Professional Knowledge items.
  4. Treat main English as a qualifying gate.
  5. Concentrate main merit effort on Professional Knowledge.

IBPS decides cut-offs using performance, vacancies and requirements. Coaching predictions are not official thresholds.

Updated vacancies on August 27

IBPS published a new annexure two days before the preliminary exam.

Specialist post Reported indicative vacancies
IT Officer 376
Agriculture Field Officer 370
Law Officer 125
Rajbhasha Adhikari 102
HR or Personnel Officer 60
Marketing Officer 10
Total reported 1,043

Union Bank of India is marked NR, meaning not reported, across the annexure. Other banks report zero for some posts.

The annexure calls vacancies indicative and notes that some bank totals may include backlog positions. Provisional allotment later uses actual vacancies.

The role distribution is unusually concentrated. IT and Agriculture together account for 746 of the 1,043 reported posts, about 71.5%. Marketing represents fewer than 1% of the current reported total.

Interview and final merit

Candidates shortlisted from the main examination attend a common interview arranged by participating banks and coordinated by the nodal bank.

Interview rule Published value
Maximum marks 100
General minimum At least 40%
SC, ST, OBC and PwBD minimum At least 35%
Main to interview final weight 80:20

Candidates must qualify both the main examination and interview and rank sufficiently high for provisional allotment.

Preliminary marks do not enter the final combined score. The main side of the 80:20 formula is driven by the post-specific merit rules, particularly Professional Knowledge.

What to check before the August 29 exam

Use this final official-source sequence:

  1. Open the Specialist Officers XVI page.
  2. Download the preliminary call letter through its dated August 20 link.
  3. Read the English information handout for CRP SPL-XVI.
  4. Confirm the assigned centre, shift and reporting time.
  5. Verify that the call letter names the correct specialist post.
  6. Carry the valid identity proof and call-letter materials specified in the handout.
  7. Keep the preliminary call letter after the exam if later stages require authenticated documents.

The handout states that the online test lasts 80 minutes but venue attendance can take about 140 minutes because of entry, login, instructions and exit procedures.

The call-letter portal, information handout, result link and main call letter are different resources. An application printout is not a substitute for the preliminary call letter.

How we researched this guide

On August 28, 2026, we opened the Specialist Officers XVI page through the existing browser profile. We downloaded the detailed notification, August 20 English preliminary handout, January CRP calendar and August 27 updated vacancy annexure.

The calendar supplied the exact August 29 and November 1 dates. The handout confirmed the live preliminary structure and penalty. The detailed notification supplied main patterns and interview weights. We summed the six updated vacancy totals to 1,043 while preserving Union Bank of India as not reported.

We also audited the live UPSC recruitment pages before replacing the proposed EPFO slot. No 2026 EPFO recruitment-test notice was present, so we did not write a date article from coaching speculation.

We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with IBPS, participating banks, UPSC or any exam board.
