2027 customs controller calendar

The current external OPCO-AG page publishes the full timeline.

The calendar applies to the external commercial-operations and general-administration branch, commonly shortened to OPCO-AG.

The customs recruitment calendar is provisional. Individual convocations supply the exact written-paper order, oral language time and venue.

English does not occur in the November QCM. It appears only if the candidate selected an optional language test during registration.

Which customs competition this guide covers

French customs controller is a Category B, baccalaureate-level state civil-service competition.

This article covers:

• External competition.
• Commercial operations and general administration branch.

It does not combine the surveillance branch, internal competition, specialist maritime roles or inspector competition. Those routes have different dates, fitness requirements or papers.

The branch can lead to merchandise verification, investigation, administrative work, accounting and social-correspondent functions.

EU and EEA nationals can apply under the published conditions, while certain sovereign or public-authority functions remain reserved to French nationals.

The competition differs from French Foreign Affairs Secretary English, where English is compulsory, INSP English, where English is a capped oral gate, and ICNA English, where English has eliminatory thresholds.

Optional written English translation

Written language is admissibility test number 3 and is optional.

The seven available languages are:

1. German.
2. English.
3. Arabic.
4. Chinese.
5. Spanish.
6. Italian.
7. Russian.

Dictionaries are permitted only under the special Arabic and Chinese rule. An English candidate translates without a dictionary.

Because only points above 10 count, a 14/20 contributes four raw bonus points before coefficient treatment. A 9/20 does not subtract nine points from the main written total under the optional-test rule.

The page does not state that selecting an optional test can rescue a candidate who failed an obligatory elimination rule elsewhere.

For general written control, use English speaking and writing skills, English vocabulary and speaking skills, and beginner speaking mistakes. DGDDI annales determine the translation format.

Optional oral English translation and conversation

Oral language is admission test number 2.

The candidate:

1. Receives a text written in the selected foreign language.
2. Translates it orally into French.
3. Continues with a conversation in the selected language.

Unlike the written option, the current page does not publish a preparation period beside the 15-minute duration. Candidates should use the later convocation and programme document rather than invent one.

The test assesses movement between English and French and then sustained English interaction. It is not only a pronunciation conversation.

You cannot use English for both options

The oral language must differ from any language selected for optional written test number 3.

This rule makes the application choice strategic. A candidate strong only in English must decide whether to use it for written translation or oral interaction.

The choice cannot be postponed until February or June. Candidates specify language options in the application.

The written option has coefficient 1 and only points above 10 count. The oral option has coefficient 2 and directly tests live interaction. The better choice depends on actual translation and conversation strength, not a generic belief that oral is easier.

Where language points fit in the main competition

The external competition begins with a 90-minute QCM carrying coefficient 2. It checks:

• General knowledge.
• French.
• Mathematics.
• Logical reasoning.

Only candidates reaching the jury-set QCM total proceed to written admissibility.

The obligatory written papers are:

The obligatory oral interview lasts 25 minutes and carries coefficient 8. It evaluates motivation and aptitude for ministry functions.

The page states that a score below 5/20 in an obligatory test is eliminatory. Optional language points are handled under their specific rules.

The total score is built by multiplying each mark by its coefficient and adding the results.

New national and local assignment choice

The 2027 cycle introduces national and specified local-assignment competitions in both controller branches.

For OPCO-AG, local routes cover:

• Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Centre-Val de Loire as one assignment area.
• Normandy.

Candidates select either national assignment or one available local route during registration. They cannot register simultaneously for the national and a local OPCO-AG external route.

They can also apply to a surveillance-branch competition because its dates are separate, but success in more than one route eventually requires a choice.

The written subjects are identical across national and local OPCO-AG competitions. Local assignment changes the geographic commitment, not the English option's task.

The opening order and later competition notice control which local routes and places remain available. The current page says the detailed 2027 competition notice and post count will be published later.

What prior competition numbers show

The current page publishes 2024 statistics for the earlier competition structure.

The admitted share was 2.18% of registrations and 15.62% of candidates present at the admissibility papers.

These figures do not predict 2027 because the new cycle adds national and local-assignment routes and had not yet published its number of positions.

They do show why the optional language test is only one part of a multi-stage selection. QCM progression, obligatory written papers and the high-coefficient interview drive most of the ranking.

Candidates should decide:

2. National assignment or one local assignment route.
3. Option for the second obligatory written paper.
