TOEFL Test Dates in France: September 2026 Guide
TOEFL France dates are live ETS inventory, not a fixed public calendar. See September 2026 test-centre and Home Edition availability, deadlines and scores.
There is no reliable public list of fixed TOEFL dates for France in September 2026. ETS places exact test-centre appointments inside its scheduling and account flow. Its current public guidance says TOEFL iBT appointments can be available up to six days per week, while the Home Edition runs 24 hours a day on four days per week.
That is the correct schedule answer, even though it is less convenient than a copied list of Saturdays. ETS offers the test-centre version more than 170 times per year, but it does not promise every date in Paris, Lyon or another French city. Candidates must search the live inventory and reserve the specific appointment.

September 2026 TOEFL schedule at a glance
| TOEFL iBT mode | What ETS publishes | What ETS does not publish openly | Candidate action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test centre in France | More than 170 test dates per year; appointments up to six days per week | One static September list for every French city | Enter France and the preferred city in the ETS scheduling flow |
| Home Edition in France | 24 hours per day on four days per week | A permanent public list naming those September dates | Check equipment first, then inspect live home appointments |
France appears on ETS's official country list for TOEFL iBT and Home Edition. Nearly all listed countries have in-person test centres, but the country list sends candidates to the schedule page rather than publishing a national calendar.
This differs from the TOEIC September schedule in France, where ETS Global exposes individual public session pages. It also differs from the IELTS September schedule in France, where the British Council registration application reveals dates before login. One provider's public interface cannot be used to infer another provider's dates.
Why ETS does not publish one France date table
TOEFL iBT is appointment inventory. City, test centre, delivery mode and remaining capacity determine what the candidate sees. The public ETS pages describe frequency and direct candidates into the scheduling portal at toeflibt.ets.org.
The portal itself displays a processing screen before the account journey. Without an ETS account and a location search, there is no authoritative France date table to extract. Search results that claim one universal September schedule usually omit the city, mode or date checked.
Three claims should not be confused:
- Offered more than 170 times a year describes the test-centre programme worldwide.
- Available up to six days a week describes possible appointment frequency.
- Bookable in your French city is a live inventory fact that must be checked in the account flow.
Only the third claim reserves anything useful. A page can repeat the first two accurately and still be wrong about Paris on a particular day.
The broader TOEFL 2026 booking guide explains the global process. This article owns the narrower France and September intent, including the absence of a public fixed calendar.
TOEFL test-centre dates in France
ETS lists France as a TOEFL iBT country and says the test-centre version is available worldwide at authorised centres. Exact French appointments are displayed after entering the scheduling flow.
Use this decision table before searching:
| Question | Why it changes the date search |
|---|---|
| Which city can you reach? | Paris inventory does not prove Lyon or another city has the same dates |
| Which date range is safe? | Score release and institution delivery happen after test day |
| Does the receiver accept MyBest scores? | A retake strategy depends on the receiver's own policy |
| Do you need accommodations? | Approval can need to happen before ordinary registration |
| Is at-home delivery accepted? | If not, hide Home Edition and search test centres only |
The test-centre option is useful when the receiving institution requires supervised in-person delivery or when the home equipment and room rules are impractical. ETS describes thousands of authorised centres worldwide, but candidates still need to confirm the specific French address and appointment.
Do not book a TOEFL date merely because a programme says it accepts English proof. Verify the exact score and section floors. Our Fall 2027 US PhD English requirements comparison shows how institutions can differ even when they all name TOEFL.
Home Edition dates in France
ETS states that TOEFL iBT Home Edition is available in France. The current testing-options page describes appointments as available 24 hours a day, four days per week, with registration at least 24 hours before the appointment.
That schedule sounds flexible, but three checks come before the date:
- The receiving institution must accept Home Edition.
- The computer, browser, camera, microphone and network must meet ETS requirements.
- The room and desk must satisfy the environmental rules for remote proctoring.
A home appointment is not an informal version of the test. ETS says a human proctor monitors it online. Failure to meet the environment or equipment conditions can stop the session even when the date was reserved.
The four-days-per-week statement does not name a permanent set of weekdays on the public page. Do not turn it into an invented Monday-to-Thursday calendar. Open the live scheduler and use the dates it presents for France at the time of booking.
If the target institution refuses at-home testing, a faster home date has no value. The same acceptance-first rule applies across certificates; see English certificate expiry compared for why test validity is only one part of the receiving rule.
Registration deadlines and fees
ETS recommends choosing a test date two to three months before the earliest admission deadline and registering four months before the desired date. Those recommendations are conservative because they preserve time for score delivery and a retake.
The current France-facing fee page lists these service fees:
| Service | Published charge |
|---|---|
| Express registration inside the final seven days | US$49 |
| Rescheduling | US$69 |
| Additional score report | US$29 per institution or agency |
| Speaking or Writing score review | US$80 per section |
| Speaking and Writing review together | US$160 |
The page requires location selection for the base test fee and notes that EU treatment differs from countries where tax is added separately. Use the France selection and final checkout for the actual total. Do not copy a US, India or old France price into a September plan.
Registration guidance also says the booking name and date of birth must exactly match the identity document used on test day. A date with open capacity does not solve an identity mismatch.
If you need a level framework before interpreting a receiver's number, read one CEFR level expressed as four TOEFL numbers and the regulator TOEFL conversion check. Conversion tables describe scores; they do not create appointment dates.
September 2026 score timeline
ETS's current score page says official TOEFL iBT scores are available in the ETS account three days after the test date. The downloadable PDF follows 24 to 48 hours after the electronic result.
Delivery to an institution is a separate clock. The schedule page says designated recipients receive score reports approximately four to 16 business days after the test, depending on delivery method. Therefore, “score in three days” does not prove that every receiver has the report on day three.
| Event | Current official timing |
|---|---|
| Official score in ETS account | 3 days after test date |
| Downloadable PDF | 24 to 48 hours after electronic score |
| Designated recipient delivery | Approximately 4 to 16 business days after test, method dependent |
| Score validity | 2 years from test date |
For a deadline on 30 September, a test on 27 September may put the account result on the deadline but leave no margin for recipient delivery. Ask whether the institution accepts an uploaded PDF, waits for direct ETS delivery or uses TOEFL Access.
The TOEFL Speaking section guide covers the current speaking tasks. Use official ETS material for the exact format and scoring, especially after the January update.
The score scale used in September 2026
TOEFL iBT changed on 21 January 2026. September score reports use a 1 to 6 scale in half-point increments for Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing and the overall result.
The overall score is the average of the four section scores, rounded to the nearest half band. During the two-year transition, ETS also displays a comparable overall score on the older 0 to 120 scale. That does not mean the old and new section numbers can be freely mixed.
The receiving institution owns the threshold. A page that still says “minimum 100” may be relying on the comparable old-scale display, while another programme may have updated to 5.0. Ask whether section minimums apply.
Our new TOEFL 1 to 6 Speaking scale guide explains the speaking conversion boundary. The current ETS table maps 5 and 5.5 to C1 and 6 to C2, but an institution can set its own requirement.
How to find a real France appointment
Follow this sequence:
- Create or open the ETS account using the identity-document name.
- Choose TOEFL iBT, not TOEFL Essentials or an unrelated ETS product.
- Select test centre or Home Edition.
- Enter France and the city or postal area for an in-person search.
- Inspect the live September dates and appointment times.
- Confirm the receiving institution accepts the chosen mode.
- Review the base fee, tax and any express-registration charge.
- Add up to four included score recipients before the stated cutoff if appropriate.
- Pay and retain the appointment confirmation.
Record the exact date you saw and when you checked it. Inventory changes, and a screenshot or confirmation is stronger evidence than memory. If no September centre appointment fits, compare Home Edition acceptance or move to an earlier or later date rather than using an unverified third-party calendar.

How we researched this guide
We checked ETS's French and European candidate pages on 28 August 2026: the country list, testing options, candidate FAQ, scheduling page, registration guidance, fees, score timing and score-scale documentation. We also followed the official schedule link through to the TOEFL iBT portal.
The portal exposed a processing screen and account flow rather than an indexable France date table. We therefore report the official frequency, mode and deadline rules and explicitly leave exact France appointments to live account inventory.
We did not infer September dates from the 170-per-year statement, turn “up to six days” into a guaranteed weekly pattern, or copy a schedule from another country. This negative finding is the point of the page: a specific appointment must be verified where ETS actually sells it.
We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with ETS, TOEFL, Cambridge English, the IELTS partners or any exam board. ETS does not publish a stable, indexable France-wide September date table. Test-centre appointments are selected inside the ETS scheduling flow, and ETS says appointments can be available up to six days per week. Home Edition appointments are offered 24 hours a day on four days per week. Log in and search France for the exact live dates.
Yes. ETS lists France among the countries where TOEFL iBT and the Home Edition are available. The official testing-options page says Home Edition appointments run 24 hours a day, four days per week, with registration at least 24 hours before the appointment. Confirm that the institution receiving your score accepts the at-home mode.
ETS says the test-centre version is offered more than 170 times per year worldwide and its candidate FAQ says appointments can be available up to six days per week. Those are frequency statements, not a guarantee for a particular French city. Exact Paris, Lyon or other France appointments appear only after entering the ETS scheduling flow.
For tests taken after the January 2026 update, ETS says official scores are available in the ETS account three days after the test. The downloadable PDF follows 24 to 48 hours later. Delivery to designated institutions can take longer by their chosen method, so a three-day account result is not always the complete application timeline.
September 2026 TOEFL iBT score reports use the 1 to 6 scale in half-point increments for all four sections and the overall score. During the two-year transition after January 2026, ETS also provides a comparable overall result on the older 0 to 120 scale. Read the receiver's current threshold before booking.
ETS's registration guidance distinguishes regular registration from express registration inside the final seven days. The current France-facing fee page lists a US$49 express-registration charge, while Home Edition guidance says to register at least 24 hours ahead. A visible appointment can still disappear, so an administrative deadline is not a seat guarantee.
