INSP 2027 Entrance Exam Deadline and English Test

Registration for France's INSP 2027 entrance competitions closes on September 22, 2026 at 12:00 noon Paris time. Written admissibility tests for the general route are scheduled for the week of March 15, 2027, followed by oral admission tests in Paris between May and mid-July.

INSP 2027 general-route calendar

INSP publishes a complete provisional sequence for the external route.

Internal candidates share the registration, written week, April 29 result, oral window and July 16 final result. Their RAEP-type dossier deadline after admissibility is May 3 rather than the external candidate's May 10 information-form date.

INSP has not yet published each candidate's English oral day for 2027. The oral window spans several weeks, and individual convocations assign dates and times after written admissibility.

The centre list for 2027 written tests was also pending on the current page. Candidates should not assume that every centre used in 2026 will return unchanged.

Which INSP routes this English format covers

The shared 600-word oral English test applies to the standard voie générale routes described on INSP's current pages:

1. External competition.
2. Internal competition.
3. Third competition.

The external competition requires at least a licence or equivalent level 6 qualification. The internal competition requires four years of eligible public service by January 1 of the competition year, without a degree condition. The third route is designed for eligible private, association or elected experience under its own rules.

Other INSP routes should not be folded into this format without checking their rules:

• The external Talents competition follows a dedicated access route.
• The doctorate route has a different examination structure.
• The voie Orient includes regional sections and different written language tasks.

The term "eight entrance competitions" refers to the whole INSP portfolio. It does not mean every route uses one identical English paper.

English oral format

INSP describes one integrated English task.

The task tests more than reading aloud. A candidate needs to identify the argument, select relevant evidence, organise a commentary and respond to follow-up questions.

A practical 15-minute preparation plan is:

1. Identify the source's main claim.
2. Mark two or three supporting ideas.
3. Note the issue's public-policy implications.
4. Build a short commentary structure.
5. Reserve possible examples for jury questions.

The conversation makes memorised delivery fragile. The jury can test whether the candidate understood the text and can sustain an exchange.

For general speaking, use English conversation topics for adults, English job interview role plays, office small talk, and practice speaking alone. Start free speaking practice without treating it as an INSP score.

Why the English score is capped at 10

INSP states that points above 10/20 are not counted for the English test.

It also states that when a candidate scores below 10, the admission jury examines the case and may remove the candidate from the admission list.

This creates an unusual score shape:

English therefore is not an uncapped opportunity to outrank candidates through a 17 or 18. Its strategic role is to demonstrate safe professional competence and avoid the sub-10 risk.

The jury's wording is discretionary below 10. The page does not say every 9.5 automatically eliminates, but no candidate should interpret that discretion as a guaranteed rescue.

The other oral components carry much larger coefficients. For the external competition, the interview is coefficient 8 and collective situation exercise coefficient 6. English remains coefficient 1.

English is not a standard general-route written paper

The external general route has five written admissibility tests:

The candidate chooses which of economics and public law receives the major coefficient. English appears only after written admissibility in the standard external route.

Internal candidates have four written tests and then the same oral English format. The third route follows its own written scheme before oral admission.

This distinction prevents a common intent error: searching for an "INSP English written exam date" when the general route only assigns English after the written result.

The voie Orient is different. It includes a written English exercise and another selected-language route. A candidate applying to Orient should use its section-specific page, not this general-route article.

How the September 22 deadline works

Online pre-registration is only the first step. The external page instructs candidates to assemble supporting documents and send the complete dossier by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt.

What the 2026 INSP numbers show

INSP recorded 3,267 candidatures across all eight 2026 entrance competitions.

The general route accounted for 2,970 candidature records and 80 offered places across its published rows.

The Talents row includes many candidates also registered externally, so the 2,970 figure counts candidatures rather than necessarily 2,970 unique people.

For the standard external route, 56.66% of registered candidates remained present on the last written day. The raw ratio was roughly 38.5 last-day candidates per offered place before oral selection.

These figures describe 2026, not the number of places for 2027. They provide a demand baseline without predicting the new intake.

INSP English versus the French diplomatic competition

Both are French public competitions, but English has a different role.

The INSP task rewards safe comprehension and interaction. The diplomatic competition makes English both a written elimination gate and a higher-coefficient oral test.

Neither accepts a commercial English certificate as a substitute under the published competition rules. DCL English, IELTS France, TOEIC France, and TOEFL France are separate products and pathways.

How to prepare without inventing the format

Use the official boundary:

1. Build reading speed on texts near 600 words.
2. Practise a short analytical commentary rather than a full lecture.
3. Connect the text to one or two public-policy implications.
4. Answer follow-up questions directly.
5. Stop trying to maximise above 10 and focus on reliable competence.

General support can come from English vocabulary and speaking skills, English speaking and writing skills, beginner speaking mistakes, and free speaking-level checks.

INSP states that only 2024 and 2025 materials correspond to the reformed competition on the current resource section. Older papers should not be treated as the active format.
