France C2 Proficiency September 2026 date
The official Cambridge France calendar showed this single entry on August 28, 2026:
| Exam date | Version | City | Registration deadline | Centre |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 12, 2026 | Digital | Epernay, Marne | September 5 | Saint Victor, Sainte Marie |
This is one centre listing, not a national network of sessions. The official Epernay centre controls capacity, fee, final venue and entry instructions.
The same city and deadline also appear for a digital C1 Advanced session, but C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency are separate qualifications. See the France C1 Advanced September schedule before choosing by convenience.
Why there is no paper option in September
Cambridge's global 2026 paper calendar lists C2 Proficiency on March 7, May 16, June 6, June 12, November 26 and December 12. September is absent.
| 2026 paper period | Fixed C2 dates |
|---|---|
| Spring | March 7 and May 16 |
| Summer | June 6 and June 12 |
| Autumn | November 26 |
| Winter | December 12 |
The Epernay September session exists because digital exams are organised by authorised centres according to demand and availability. A digital date does not need to match the fixed paper calendar.
Digital still means attending an approved centre. Cambridge's digital qualification guidance describes computer delivery with human marking and local centre administration, not an unsupervised home test.
The C2 Proficiency three-part Speaking format explains why the Speaking component remains a human interaction.
Epernay centre and registration checks
The deadline is September 5, only seven days before the exam. A deadline is the last published entry point, not a guarantee that a seat survives until then.
Contact the centre and ask:
- Is the September 12 C2 digital session still accepting candidates?
- What is the current fee and payment deadline?
- Where is the final exam venue?
- What date and time is Speaking?
- Which identity document is required?
- When will the Confirmation of Entry be issued?
The France table does not state any of those details. Cambridge candidates register through centres, so the centre response is stronger evidence than a copied calendar.
After the centre confirms the place, start a free SpeakShark conversation for general spoken-English practice and use Cambridge's official sample tests for the qualification itself.
The Speaking date is set locally
The published September 12 date does not prove Speaking occurs that day. Cambridge's global schedule states that Speaking dates are subject to local provision.
C2 Proficiency Speaking has three parts. It normally involves two candidates and two examiners. The interlocutor conducts the interaction and gives a global mark, while the assessor observes and marks the analytical criteria.
Our guides cover Part 1 interview questions, the Part 2 collaborative task, and the Part 3 long turn and discussion. The two Cambridge examiner roles explains the marking split.
Ask for the full timetable before arranging travel to Epernay. Speaking can sit on a nearby date and may change the accommodation needed.
C2 Proficiency score outcomes
C2 Proficiency targets the highest CEFR level but reports a fallback C1 outcome:
| Cambridge English Scale | Result | Certificate level |
|---|---|---|
| 220 to 230 | Pass at Grade A | C2 |
| 213 to 219 | Pass at Grade B | C2 |
| 200 to 212 | Pass at Grade C | C2 |
| 180 to 199 | Level C1 | C1 |
| 162 to 179 | No grade | No certificate |
The overall score is based on Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Use of English. The qualification reports component scores as well as the overall result.
The Council of Europe CEFR descriptions define the level framework, while the receiving institution decides whether it requires a C2 certificate, a minimum scale score or component floors.
Use Cambridge speaking criteria by level and CEFR speaking levels explained to understand the difference between C1 and C2.
Result and certificate timing
Cambridge's 2026 C2 information for candidates gives these digital timelines:
| Document | Expected timing after September 12 |
|---|---|
| Statement of Results | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Certificate | 3 to 4 weeks |
The Statement of Results is official and can be checked in the Results Verification Service. A French university or employer may be able to verify it before the certificate reaches the centre, but the receiver decides what evidence is sufficient.
Test-day photos are mandatory for C2 Proficiency. Cambridge's April 2026 update says the photo appears on result documentation so recognising organisations can connect the result to the candidate.
Cambridge qualifications do not expire, although a receiving organisation can impose a recency rule. The distinction is covered in English certificate expiry compared.
Later C2 Proficiency dates in France
If September 5 has passed or Epernay is full, the France calendar listed these later options:
| Exam date | Version | City | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 17 | Digital | Lyon | October 8 |
| November 14 | Digital | Lyon | November 5 |
| November 26 | Paper | Strasbourg | October 9 |
| November 26 | Paper | Luynes | October 16 |
| November 28 | Digital | Paris | November 20 |
| December 12 | Digital | Lyon | December 3 |
The later paper options have much longer lead times than Epernay digital. Choose based on the receiving deadline, readiness and travel, not the delivery mode alone.
For comparison, Germany has three September C2 digital dates and Austria has two. Those country calendars should become their own pages because their cities and deadlines differ from France.
Check whether you really need C2
C2 Proficiency is not simply a more impressive version of C1 Advanced. It targets a higher level and has a different three-part Speaking test.
Confirm the receiver's rule before entering:
- Does it accept C1 Advanced already?
- Does it require a C2 certificate or only a C1-level score?
- Are component minimums imposed?
- Can an official online result be used before the certificate arrives?
- Is another named French certification required instead?
France also uses DCL English and CLES certification in different contexts. A September C2 date does not override a programme's named evidence.
Use the free speaking-level check for a baseline. If C2 is far above the current level, moving the date is more realistic than relying on a short preparation sprint.

How to register in Epernay
- Confirm that the receiver accepts C2 Proficiency.
- Contact Saint Victor, Sainte Marie through Cambridge's official France table.
- Confirm capacity, fee, venue and Speaking date.
- Submit the centre's entry and payment before September 5.
- Retain the Confirmation of Entry and candidate login details.
- Check result-release and receiver deadlines.
Do not register through a site that only repeats the date. Cambridge's authorised centre handles the actual entry.
How we researched this guide
We checked Cambridge English's France calendar for individual candidates, global 2026 exam dates, C2 digital guidance, format pages, April 2026 results update and current information for candidates on August 28, 2026.
Only one French C2 Proficiency entry appeared in September: digital Epernay on September 12 with a September 5 deadline. We separately checked the fixed paper calendar and confirmed that September has no C2 paper date.
We did not infer fee, capacity, venue or Speaking date. No real exam questions or unofficial answer material were copied.
We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with Cambridge English, the IELTS partners, Pearson or any exam board. For test format, booking and official practice material, go to the exam body directly. Use SpeakShark to make your spoken English stronger, and use official material to learn the test.

No French paper session appears in September, and Cambridge's global 2026 paper calendar has no C2 Proficiency paper date that month. The next fixed paper date is November 26. The Epernay September 12 session is digital, taken in person at an authorised centre rather than remotely from home.
The published deadline is September 5, seven calendar days before the September 12 digital exam. The centre can reach capacity before the cutoff, so candidates should contact Saint Victor, Sainte Marie immediately. The public table does not publish the fee, final room or a waiting-list policy.
Cambridge's 2026 information for candidates says the digital Statement of Results normally appears one to two weeks after the exam, while the certificate follows in about three to four weeks. The Statement of Results is official and verifiable online, but a university or employer decides which document it requires.
Scores from 200 to 230 receive a C2 certificate, with Grades C, B and A covering 200 to 212, 213 to 219 and 220 to 230. Scores from 180 to 199 receive a certificate at C1. Scores from 162 to 179 receive no grade, CEFR level or certificate.

Ask the centre for the complete timetable and final venue before booking travel, and rely on the Confirmation of Entry rather than the public date alone.
