Versant Test at Teleperformance 2026: BPO Guide
Teleperformance publishes no official Versant cutoff. Here is what BPO candidates actually report, what each subscore gates, and why the mock call decides your offer.
๐ฆ Applying to a BPO and dreading the automated English test? Teleperformance does not publish a Versant cutoff โ or any assessment details at all. We checked its careers site in July 2026: job search, a recruitment-fraud warning, and nothing else. No test names, no score thresholds. Pearson does not publish a pass mark either, because Versant sells a scale and each employer sets its own bar privately. So the honest version of this guide is: here is what Pearson does officially document about the test, what BPO candidates commonly report about the process, where those reports contradict each other, and why the mock call after the assessment is usually the stage that decides your offer.

Versant at Teleperformance: what is actually confirmed
Everything you read about BPO assessment cutoffs online is one of three things: an official Pearson fact, a candidate report, or a prep-site guess dressed as a fact. Here is which is which, checked July 2026.
| Claim you will see online | Status | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Teleperformance requires a specific Versant score | Not published anywhere official | TP careers site lists jobs and a fraud warning only โ no test names, no cutoffs |
| Pearson defines a "pass" score | No โ Pearson sells the scale, employers set the bar | Pearson's Versant test range publishes lengths and skills, never thresholds |
| Versant is built for call centers and BPO providers | Confirmed by Pearson | Pearson labels the Speaking & Listening and 4-Skills tests "Used by corporations, call centers and BPO providers" |
| Big outsourcers appear as Versant customers | Confirmed on Pearson's own site | Pearson's Versant page shows Concentrix, American Express, Aegis and KPMG logos, plus an iQor recruitment-manager testimonial |
| Teleperformance specifically uses Versant | Disputed โ guides contradict each other | Some candidate guides describe a Versant stage; AssessmentCentreHQ instead names SVAR and AMCAT and never mentions Versant |
| Agents need roughly 55โ62 out of 80 | Prep-site estimate, candidate-reported | Third-party test-prep sites โ not Pearson, not Teleperformance |
| A mock call follows the assessment | Widely candidate-reported, consistent across sources | Candidate process write-ups such as Psychometric Success |
Read that table again before you pay anyone for a "guaranteed cutoff" cheat sheet. The two rows that matter most โ the cutoff and even which test you will sit โ are the two nobody can confirm.
What the Versant test actually is
Versant is an automated spoken-English assessment owned by Pearson, built on the Ordinate testing system originally founded in 1996 and acquired by Pearson in 2008. No human interviewer is involved. A speech recognizer optimised for non-native speech analyses your words, pauses, syllables and phones, and a score report lands in the recruiter's portal within minutes.
There are several Versant products, and which one you sit changes what you are being measured on. From Pearson's own test range:
- English Speaking and Listening Test โ 17 minutes. The current flagship for voice hiring. "Used by corporations, call centers and BPO providers."
- English 4-Skills Essentials Test โ 30 minutes. Speaking, listening, reading and writing. Same stated audience.
- English Writing Test โ 35 minutes. For chat and email support roles.
- Professional English Test โ 60 minutes, and the English Placement Test โ 50 minutes, used more for internal training and progression than frontline screening.
- English Speaking Test โ 17 minutes, described by Pearson as "perfect for customer facing roles" and flagged as retiring.
The older Versant English Test is the one most cutoff rumours are built on. Pearson's product sheet documents it precisely: 63 questions, around 15 minutes, a precise score in the range of 20 to 80, and six task types โ Reading, Repeat, Short Questions, Sentence Builds, Story Retelling, Open Questions. It reports four diagnostic subscores (Sentence Mastery, Vocabulary, Fluency, Pronunciation) plus an Intelligibility Index. Pearson claims a 0.97 correlation with expert human scoring and 0.97 split-half reliability, and notes the test uses a random test form to prevent cheating.
Here is the trap almost nobody warns you about: the newer Speaking and Listening test does not report on the 20โ80 scale at all. Its official score report uses the Global Scale of English, 10 to 90, with Speaking, Listening and Manner of Speaking subscores. In Pearson's sample report, an overall GSE 73 maps to CEFR B2+, with Speaking 79 (C1), Listening 66 (B2) and Manner of Speaking 84 (C1).
So when a forum post says "I got 62," you cannot tell whether that is 62 out of 80 (roughly B2) or GSE 62 out of 90 (roughly B1+). Pearson's older sample report spells the conversion out: GSE 59/90 is equivalent to Versant 58/80. Two scales, two different meanings, one very confused applicant pool. We unpack the bands properly in our guide to what counts as a good Versant score, and walk through each task type in Versant test questions explained.
What score does Teleperformance require for the Versant test?
The honest answer: Teleperformance does not say, and we found no official source that does.
That is not evasion โ it is how this market works. Pearson's marketing to HR teams promises faster, cheaper hiring and "results within minutes"; it deliberately leaves the threshold to the client, because the right bar for a US healthcare account is not the right bar for a domestic Portuguese-language queue. The cutoff is a client requirement, it varies by account, and it is not public.
What candidates and prep sites commonly report is a band of roughly 55 to 62 out of 80 for frontline agent roles, with team leader and trainer roles pushed higher. We are reporting that as candidate-reported and unverified โ no Pearson document and no Teleperformance page confirms it. Anyone who states it as fact is guessing with confidence.
A more useful way to think about your target:
- Aim for a solid B2 overall. Pearson's sample report in the Versant English Test product sheet puts an overall score of 58/80 (GSE 59) at CEFR B2, described as handling "a wide variety of discourse and speaking styles" and contributing "to a native-paced discussion."
- Watch the Fluency subscore โ it usually drags. In that same official sample, the candidate scored Pronunciation 64/80 (B2+) but Fluency only 51/80 (B1). Pearson's description is exact: "adequate rhythm but with some inappropriate phrasing and pausing. Hesitations and possible repetitions or false starts."
- Manner of Speaking is the call-center subscore. On the current test, Pearson defines it as speaking "in a way that proficient English speakers easily find understandable" โ correct sounds, normal conversational pace, "without too much hesitation or unusual pauses." That is a QA scorecard written in assessment language.
- Intelligibility is scored separately. The older report's Intelligibility Index rates a 4 as "Good," meaning "listeners may require a little effort at times to understand some of the candidate's speech." A little effort is fine for a friend; on a support call it is a repeat request.
If you want a rough read on where you stand before you book anything, our free English speaking level check is a reasonable starting point, and the wider preparation plan lives in how to prepare for the Versant test.
Versant test in BPO hiring: Philippines, India and Egypt
Automated speaking tests exist because of scale. The Philippine IT-BPM sector ended 2025 with about 1.9 million workers and roughly $40 billion in export revenue, growing 5% against an estimated 3% globally, and targeting 1.97 million jobs and $42 billion in 2026 โ figures reported by the Philippine Daily Inquirer on 1 January 2026, citing industry association IBPAP. When a country hires at that volume, no recruiter can personally assess every applicant's English. A 15-minute automated test that returns results in minutes is the only thing that scales.
Egypt is running the same playbook. ITIDA, Egypt's official ICT authority, reports 240+ offshoring companies operating 270+ global service delivery centres, 2025 exports of $4.8 billion, and 55 agreements signed in November 2025 expected to create 75,000+ additional jobs over three years. India's picture is similar at even greater scale. More candidates per seat means more screening, and screening means an automated speaking score.
Two practical consequences for you:
- The bar moves with the account, not the country. A test that gates a US healthcare or insurance queue is set higher than one gating a regional back-office role. Same employer, same city, different cutoff.
- Versant may not even be the test. SHL's SVAR โ an AI-scored spoken-English assessment running 12โ15 minutes, explicitly aimed at "customer service and contact centres," technical support and telesales, in 20+ languages and 7 accents โ competes for exactly the same screening slot. That is why the guides disagree about Teleperformance.
Here is the good news hiding in that mess: both tests score the same underlying thing. Pronunciation, fluency, pace, hesitation, comprehension. Preparation that improves your actual speaking transfers to either one. Preparation that memorises one test's format does not.

The mock call after Versant is the real gate
Candidates who obsess over the automated test and then walk into the mock call cold are optimising the wrong stage.
Across candidate write-ups of the Teleperformance process, the pattern is consistent: an initial screen, an assessment block (language, typing, sometimes a personality test), then an operations or final interview built around a mock call โ often the same day. One candidate-sourced summary describes a four-stage flow of application, testing, interview and offer, with a typing requirement reported at 25 words per minute minimum; another describes an operations evaluation lasting 30โ45 minutes involving mock calls. Again: candidate-reported, not company-published, and the details vary by site.
Why this stage decides more than the test does: Versant measures your speech in isolation; the mock call measures your behaviour under interruption. The automated test never gets angry. It never talks over you, never changes its story halfway, never asks a question you were not expecting. A recruiter playing a frustrated customer does all four.
What they are actually watching:
- Opening. A clean, warm, branded greeting delivered without hesitation.
- Empathy before solution. Acknowledging the feeling first โ "I completely understand how frustrating that is" โ before diving into fixes.
- Control. Short fact-finding questions that steer the call instead of following the customer's spiral.
- Clarity on numbers. Amounts, dates and reference numbers said slowly and confirmed back. "Fifteen" versus "fifty" creates tomorrow's escalation.
- Close. A specific commitment: what you will do, and by when.
This is a rehearsable performance, not a personality trait. SpeakShark's Role Play mode exists for exactly this โ customer calls, complaints, job interviews โ with an AI that genuinely responds to what you say, so you practise recovering when the conversation goes sideways rather than reciting a script. Our dedicated guides go deeper: English speaking practice for call center agents, role-play scenarios for speaking practice, five job-interview role-plays, and how to talk on the phone in English.
How to prepare for the Versant test at a BPO
The most credible preparation advice comes from Pearson itself. Its score reports include "Tips to improve" written for candidates who scored low on each subscore โ and they are all speaking-practice instructions, not vocabulary lists.
For a weak Fluency score, Pearson tells candidates to "practice speaking for a full two minutes without stopping. If you get stuck on a word, try expressing your idea in a different way," and to imitate native speakers' "pace and the location of pauses." For Manner of Speaking, it recommends extensive listening and shadowing: "listen to how a native speaker reads it and try to 'shadow' that person by reading it aloud with the same intonation."
A four-week routine built on that:
- Daily out-loud reps, 15โ20 minutes. Not reading โ talking. Answer open questions in full sentences. The Open Questions and Story Retelling tasks reward structured, uninterrupted speech, which is precisely what silent study never builds.
- Two-minute non-stop drill. Pearson's own instruction. Pick a topic, talk for 120 seconds, do not stop to search for the perfect word โ paraphrase and keep moving. Hesitation costs you more than imprecision.
- Repeat-after training. The Repeat and Sentence Builds tasks test working memory as much as pronunciation. Practise hearing a sentence once and reproducing it immediately.
- Fix the sounds that actually cause repeats. Not your whole accent โ the handful of consonants and vowels that make listeners ask you to say it again. SpeakShark flags mispronounced phonemes during natural conversation, so you find them in real speech rather than in isolated drills.
- Rehearse the mock call in week three. Once fluency is moving, switch to Role Play and drill the customer scenarios above.
The compounding advantage matters more than any single session. SpeakShark's AI teachers keep cross-session memory โ your recurring mistakes, your level and the topics you have covered carry from one session to the next, so session ten opens already knowing the three errors you kept making in sessions one through nine. No competitor in this niche does that, and it is the difference between practice that accumulates and practice that resets every day.
Free tier: three sessions a day, forever, five minutes each (four turns), teacher Sarah in American English, 64 topics, basic feedback and 7-day history, no card. Premium is $10/month or $69/year (about $5.75/month, 43% off) โ the current pricing page is the source of truth โ and unlocks unlimited sessions, four accent teachers (American, British, Australian and Canadian โ useful when your account serves UK or Australian customers), 320 topics across 10 categories, 10-minute sessions with unlimited turns, advanced feedback and full history.
One practical footnote before test day: automated scoring is only as good as your audio. Bad microphone placement and room echo drag down a score that has nothing to do with your English. We cover that in Versant test setup: camera, mic and headphones.
How we researched this guide
Every factual claim above traces to a page we opened in July 2026, and we have labelled the evidence tier throughout:
- Official Pearson documentation for anything about the test itself โ the Versant test range page, the Versant English Test product sheet (63 questions, ~15 minutes, 20โ80 scale, reliability figures), and the Speaking and Listening score report (GSE 10โ90, Manner of Speaking subscore, improvement tips).
- The employer's own site for what Teleperformance publishes: we opened tp.com careers and found no assessment names and no cutoffs. We report that absence rather than filling it with a guess.
- Competing candidate guides, shown in conflict. Where AssessmentCentreHQ names SVAR and AMCAT while other guides describe Versant, we show both instead of picking the tidier story.
- Industry statistics from primary sources โ IBPAP figures via the Inquirer (1 January 2026) and ITIDA's official outlook for Egypt.
- What we refused to publish: a confident numeric cutoff for Teleperformance. It is the single most-searched thing on this topic and the single least verifiable. Prep sites monetise that gap; we would rather lose the click.

When Versant prep is the wrong thing to focus on
Fair warning, including where our own product is not the answer.
If your test is next week, targeted drilling beats conversation practice. Conversational fluency compounds over months. If you sit the assessment in five days, spend that time on format familiarity โ repeat-after-me sentences, story retelling, timed open answers โ and on your audio setup. A drill app like ELSA is sharper than any conversation tool for grinding one stubborn sound fifty times in ten minutes.
If the blocker is nerves rather than ability, fix the nerves. Plenty of candidates who speak fine with friends freeze at a microphone with a countdown. That is graded exposure, not vocabulary; start with overcoming the fear of speaking English.
If you need a human on the line, hire one. An AI partner is consistent, always available and free to fail in front of. A human tutor playing an irate customer is unpredictable in ways no AI fully matches, and unpredictability is closer to a real Tuesday queue. Budget human tutoring services fill that gap.
If your written English is the weak point, this is the wrong test to worry about. Chat and email support accounts screen with the Versant English Writing Test (35 minutes) or the 4-Skills Essentials Test. Speaking practice will not move a writing score.
And SpeakShark's honest limits: free sessions cap at five minutes and four turns, which is enough for a daily habit but short for a full mock-call arc โ that really wants a Premium-length session. There is no live human coach. And nothing we offer is Versant test prep in the narrow sense: we do not sell practice tests, score predictions or a cutoff cheat sheet. What we do is improve the speaking that the test measures. If you want a broader view of the field, our ranking of the best English speaking apps in 2026 covers the alternatives honestly.
