IELTS was bookable in Madrid on 12 dates in September 2026 when the British Council portal was audited on August 28. Academic and General Training both appeared on September 1, 4, 5, 8, 11, 12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 25 and 30.

Each test-type search returned 15 booking cards, all grouped under British Council Madrid, and every card displayed EUR 284. Spain had moved British Council IELTS delivery to computer from July 1, 2026, so this is not the old fixed paper calendar.

The twelve dates are live city inventory. They are not a Spain-wide fixed schedule and can lose or gain cards after the audit.

Compare the different local patterns: Paris IELTS September dates showed 26 dates, Milan IELTS showed 18, and New York IELTS showed seven. The same exam brand can have very different city calendars.

The Tuesday, Friday and Saturday pattern

The first three full weeks repeated Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The final part of the month broke the pattern: September 26 was absent, while Wednesday, September 30 appeared.

This matters because a candidate should not assume “Madrid runs every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday” after seeing three weeks. Inventory is explicit by date, not generated from a permanent weekly rule.

Fifteen cards across twelve dates means at least three dates had an additional session or booking combination. The card, not the calendar highlight, carries the exact written-component time and Speaking arrangement.

The matching dates and price do not make the tests interchangeable. A university, employer, regulator or immigration authority decides which product it accepts.

Spain's July 2026 computer transition

British Council Spain states that from July 1, 2026 all its IELTS tests are delivered on computer. Its current information page says computer results normally arrive in one to five days and One Skill Retake is available only with computer delivery.

The live Madrid cards used computer delivery for Listening, Reading and Writing. Speaking remained a human interaction at the centre.

The older British Council English page still mentions paper cities, while the current Spanish page presents computer cities only. During a website transition, the live booking card and current local-language notice are stronger than an older summary.

Speaking arrangements on the Madrid cards

The result set used two visible descriptions: live with examiner and video call at the test centre. Both require attendance at the test centre; video call does not mean IELTS Online.

IELTS locations across Spain

British Council Spain says it operates through 29 official locations. Its current computer-test city list includes:

Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Bilbao and Burgos.
Cordoba, Donostia, Las Palmas, Las Rozas and Madrid.
Malaga, Pamplona, Santiago de Compostela, Seville and Valencia.

The registration menu also displayed A Coruna, Oviedo and Zaragoza, among others. A city appearing in a network list does not guarantee the selected test has September inventory.

Registrations are administered through British Council offices in Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid. Another city can have a different calendar while using one of those administrative offices.
