IELTS Test Dates in Italy: September 2026 Schedule

IELTS Milan lists 28 September 2026 sessions across 18 dates for Academic and General Training. Check dates, centres, EUR 290 fee and speaking mode.

IELTS on computer was available in Milan on 18 dates in September 2026 when the British Council portal was checked on 28 August. Separate searches for Academic and General Training returned the same dates: 1, 3 to 5, 8, 10 to 12, 15, 18 to 20, and 22 to 27 September.

Each test type returned 28 booking cards. Twenty-six belonged to British Council Milan, while Bocconi University Language Center and Selexi contributed one each. Every card displayed EUR 290. The calendar even included Sunday 20 and 27 September, so it cannot be reconstructed from a simple Monday-to-Saturday rule.

This is a dated snapshot of live inventory, not a promise that all 28 cards remain open. Use the list to identify workable dates, then repeat the search in the official British Council registration portal before paying.

For the spoken component, start a free SpeakShark conversation and practise general English out loud while using official IELTS resources for the test format.

Key takeaways

  • Milan showed 18 distinct September dates for both Academic and General Training.
  • Each test-type search returned 28 cards, split 26, 1 and 1 across three centre labels.
  • All inspected Milan cards displayed EUR 290.
  • Sunday 20 and 27 September were available; Sunday 6 and 13 were not.
  • Italy's official finder showed 58 centre results, so another city must be checked independently.

Milan IELTS dates in September 2026

The Milan availability pattern was identical for Academic and General Training:

Week Bookable dates found Dates with no Milan card in the audit
1 to 6 September Tue 1, Thu 3, Fri 4, Sat 5 Wed 2, Sun 6
7 to 13 September Tue 8, Thu 10, Fri 11, Sat 12 Mon 7, Wed 9, Sun 13
14 to 20 September Tue 15, Fri 18, Sat 19, Sun 20 Mon 14, Wed 16, Thu 17
21 to 27 September Tue 22, Wed 23, Thu 24, Fri 25, Sat 26, Sun 27 Mon 21
28 to 30 September None found Mon 28, Tue 29, Wed 30

This is not a recurring weekly schedule. Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays were common, but Sunday availability changed within the same month. The final three September dates did not appear at all in the audited Milan search.

The practical lesson is simple: search by city and date range. Do not copy the France September IELTS calendar, where Paris showed a different 26-date pattern. Both pages describe real provider inventory, and the difference proves why a global fixed list is no longer enough.

For the year-round booking process, use the IELTS test dates guide. This page is deliberately limited to one exam, one country and one month.

Why 18 dates produced 28 booking cards

A booking card represents one combination of venue, date, time and Speaking arrangement. More than one card can therefore sit under the same calendar date.

The Milan result set contained:

Centre label Academic cards General Training cards
British Council Milan 26 26
Universita Bocconi, Language Center 1 1
Selexi 1 1
Total 28 28

The two searches were run separately. Finding the same counts and dates in both is stronger than assuming General Training follows the Academic calendar.

Still, identical availability does not make the tests interchangeable. An Italian university, employer, regulator or immigration authority decides which product it accepts. Select the required product before comparing dates.

Academic versus General Training dates

Academic and General Training shared the 18-date Milan calendar in this snapshot. Their purposes differ:

IELTS product Common use What to verify before booking
Academic University admission and professional registration Overall score, section floors and accepted delivery mode
General Training Migration, work or non-academic routes where named Exact route, score and whether UKVI approval is required

A candidate applying to a UK route from Italy may need IELTS for UKVI rather than ordinary General Training. The dates and fee can differ. Read IELTS UKVI versus Academic and General Training before entering the city calendar.

Italian higher-education requirements can also name a CEFR level, a certificate or an institutional assessment rather than IELTS specifically. The receiving page outranks a generic exam comparison. Our English certificate expiry comparison explains why certificate validity is another independent condition.

Milan centres, times and price

British Council Milan supplied 26 of the 28 cards in each search. Bocconi University Language Center and Selexi each supplied one. The official Italy centre finder also lists British Council Milan as UKVI approved and labels several Milan-area providers as computer based.

The booking cards contained morning and afternoon combinations, with the exact Speaking slot shown separately. Because time inventory changes, this article records the date and count pattern rather than copying every transient appointment.

Every audited card displayed 290 EUR. That price covered Academic and General Training on computer in the Milan search. It should not be reused for Life Skills, UKVI, IELTS Online or a different provider without checking the current page.

Before choosing the lowest-friction card, compare:

  • Venue address and travel time.
  • Listening, Reading and Writing start.
  • Default Speaking slot.
  • Speaking delivery description.
  • Current seat and payment status.
  • Exact IELTS product.

The Italian network is much wider than Milan. British Council Italy lists 33 cities, while the IELTS finder returned 58 centre results when checked. The higher number reflects multiple centres or delivery points in some locations.

Speaking arrangements on the booking cards

Two Speaking descriptions appeared in the Milan result set: live with examiner and video call at the test centre. Neither label means an unsupervised home interview.

Each card paired the Listening, Reading and Writing date with a default Speaking appointment. The portal provided a control to change that default time if it did not suit the candidate, subject to remaining options.

Read the confirmation email carefully because the spoken appointment can affect the practical length of test day. The IELTS computer-delivered Speaking guide explains the distinction between computer delivery for three components and the human Speaking interaction.

If speaking anxiety is the main bottleneck, start with the free speaking-level check. Then use IELTS speaking practice at home and IELTS speaking practice alone to build an out-loud routine. Use a free SpeakShark session for general conversation and pronunciation feedback, not copied exam questions.

IELTS dates across the rest of Italy

British Council Italy names these test locations: Ancona, Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Latina, Lecce, Milan, Modena, Naples, Padua, Palermo, Pesaro, Pescara, Pisa, Reggio Calabria, Reggio Emilia, Rome, Sassari, Siena, Taranto, Terni, Turin, Trento, Trieste, Udine, Venice, Verona and Vicenza.

The registration city menu observed during this audit contained a similar but not byte-identical list. Messina and Pavia appeared, while some names on the general information page were absent. A city appearing on a network page does not guarantee it has a seat for the selected test and month.

Use this process for another Italian city:

  1. Choose Academic, General Training or UKVI first.
  2. Keep Italy as the country.
  3. Select the city from the live menu.
  4. Inspect September's highlighted dates.
  5. Search the complete range and load every result.
  6. Check centre, time, Speaking mode and price.
  7. Pay before treating the date as reserved.

Rome is especially important because the official IELTS finder still labelled International House Rome as paper based, while many other Italian entries were computer based. That label needs direct centre confirmation for September inventory.

The paper-based IELTS caveat in Italy

IELTS announced in March 2026 that it would stop offering paper-based IELTS from mid-2026, with exact transition dates varying by market. At the same time, the current Italy centre finder still showed one Rome entry labelled paper based.

Those two facts can coexist during a transition. The finder label may describe centre capability, while the live September calendar determines whether a paper sitting is actually sold. Contact the centre before making travel plans.

Most Italy results were labelled computer based, and the British Council Milan flow offered IELTS on computer. Our computer-delivered IELTS versus paper guide explains the delivery differences, while IELTS Online versus paper covers the at-home academic option and its acceptance limits.

The move away from the old paper calendar is why older “four fixed dates per month” articles are unreliable for current Italy planning. Milan had 18 bookable dates in this snapshot, not four.

Result timing and deadline planning

The Milan registration flow described computer results as available in one to five days. IELTS's main site currently says computer results are usually available in one to two days. A candidate should plan against the local booking information and preserve a buffer rather than choose whichever number is shorter.

Count backwards from the receiving deadline:

Planning layer Question
Score needed Which overall and section minimums apply?
Result date What window does the booked centre state?
Delivery Does the receiver wait for official electronic delivery?
Retake Is there another accepted Milan date before the deadline?

A 27 September sitting may be visible, but it is not automatically safe for a 30 September score deadline. Read how many days computer IELTS results take and the current One Skill Retake cost guide before relying on a late-month recovery plan.

For a short study window, prepare for IELTS in one month and the daily IELTS practice routine help separate language work from administration.

How to book the right Italy session

Use the provider flow in this order:

  1. Confirm the required IELTS product with the receiver.
  2. Open the official Italy booking portal.
  3. Select the test type before the city.
  4. Choose Milan or another Italian location.
  5. Select a date range and load every card.
  6. Compare address, written-component time and Speaking appointment.
  7. Check the current price and identity rules.
  8. Complete payment and save the confirmation.

Do not use a date table as evidence of a booking. Live cards can be removed as capacity fills. If Milan does not fit, repeat the search for another city rather than assuming the national network shares one calendar.

How we researched this guide

On 28 August 2026, we ran two complete searches in the official British Council registration application: IELTS Academic in Milan from 1 to 30 September and IELTS General Training over the same city and period. We loaded all result cards in each search.

Both searches returned 28 cards across 18 distinct dates, three centre labels and one listed price of EUR 290. We recorded the Speaking descriptions and compared the live city menu with the British Council Italy location page and the official IELTS Italy centre finder.

We did not infer Rome, Naples or another city's dates from Milan. We did not treat a paper-based centre label as proof of September paper inventory, and we did not use an older global paper calendar.

We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with Cambridge English, the IELTS partners, Pearson or any exam board. FAQ

What are the IELTS test dates in Italy in September 2026?
The British Council Milan search showed IELTS on computer on 1, 3 to 5, 8, 10 to 12, 15, 18 to 20, and 22 to 27 September 2026. The same 18 dates appeared for Academic and General Training when checked on 28 August. Other Italian cities have separate live calendars.
How many IELTS sessions are available in Milan in September 2026?
Each full-month search returned 28 booking cards: 26 at British Council Milan, one at Bocconi University Language Center and one at Selexi. Because some dates had multiple times, 28 cards represented 18 distinct dates. This is live inventory, so cards and remaining seats can change after the audit.
How much does IELTS cost in Italy in September 2026?
Every Milan Academic and General Training card inspected displayed EUR 290. That price applied to the on-computer sessions in this audit, not automatically to UKVI, Life Skills, IELTS Online or every other provider. Confirm the selected product and checkout total because fees and local offers can change.
Does Milan offer IELTS on Sundays in September 2026?
Yes. Sunday 20 and Sunday 27 September appeared in both the Academic and General Training Milan calendars. Sunday 6 and 13 did not. The month was not a simple weekday-only pattern, which is why candidates should use the live city calendar rather than infer dates from another country or centre.
Is IELTS Speaking face to face in Milan?
The audited Milan cards used two descriptions: live with examiner and video call at the test centre. Both require attendance at the stated venue. Each card paired the written components with a default Speaking slot and allowed the candidate to change that default time, subject to the options still available.
Can I take paper-based IELTS in Italy in September 2026?
Most official Italy finder results were labelled computer based, but International House Rome was still labelled paper based when checked. IELTS announced a market-by-market move away from paper from mid-2026, so do not assume a label guarantees September inventory. Contact that centre and confirm the current product before planning around paper.
