C1 Advanced Test Dates Germany: September 2026 Guide

Germany has nine published C1 Advanced sessions across five September 2026 dates. Compare paper and digital dates, cities, centres and registration deadlines.

Cambridge publishes nine C1 Advanced sessions in Germany across five dates in September 2026. The dates are 5, 9, 12, 19 and 23 September. Eight listings are digital and one is paper based.

The schedule is not one national sitting. Berlin has three listings, Frankfurt has two, and Dortmund, Cologne, Munich and Stuttgart have one each. Every listing has its own registration deadline, ranging from 29 July to 16 September.

Germany C1 Advanced September 2026 schedule

The official Cambridge English open-dates page showed this German schedule when checked on August 28, 2026:

Exam date Version City Registration deadline Exam centre
September 5 Digital Berlin August 31 GLS Sprachenzentrum Berlin
September 9 Digital Berlin September 2 GLS Sprachenzentrum Berlin
September 12 Paper Dortmund July 29 Auslandsgesellschaft.de
September 12 Digital Cologne August 28 Englisches Institut Koln
September 12 Digital Munich September 2 Cambridge Institut Munchen
September 12 Digital Frankfurt September 5 Eloquia
September 19 Digital Stuttgart September 6 Anglo-German Institute
September 19 Digital Berlin September 14 GLS Sprachenzentrum Berlin
September 23 Digital Frankfurt September 16 Eloquia

The table contains five exam dates but nine bookable centre listings. September 12 is the densest day, with four cities and both delivery versions. A candidate who misses one centre's deadline cannot assume another centre on the same date uses the same cutoff.

The official Cambridge English exam-date page confirms September 12 as the fixed 2026 paper date for C1 Advanced. The additional digital dates come from centre availability rather than a global fixed calendar.

Registration deadlines in urgency order

Read the deadline before the exam date. On the August 28 audit, the paper entry in Dortmund was already closed and Cologne's digital deadline fell that day.

Deadline Session affected Status on August 28
July 29 Dortmund paper, September 12 Passed
August 28 Cologne digital, September 12 Closing on audit date
August 31 Berlin digital, September 5 3 calendar days left
September 2 Berlin digital, September 9; Munich digital, September 12 5 calendar days left
September 5 Frankfurt digital, September 12 8 calendar days left
September 6 Stuttgart digital, September 19 9 calendar days left
September 14 Berlin digital, September 19 17 calendar days left
September 16 Frankfurt digital, September 23 19 calendar days left

These are published cutoffs, not promises of capacity through the final minute. Contact the centre immediately when a deadline is close. The centre controls entry, payment, venue and any local late-registration possibility.

This urgency is the main reason to separate the German article from a generic C1 Advanced Speaking format guide. Format changes slowly; local entry deadlines expire in days.

Paper versus digital in the German calendar

The September German list is overwhelmingly digital: eight digital listings against one paper listing. The paper entry is in Dortmund on the global September 12 date, and its July 29 registration deadline had already passed by late August.

Cambridge states that paper and digital C1 Advanced lead to the same qualification and use the same exam format. The input method, registration lead time and result speed differ.

Decision factor Digital Paper based
German September listings 8 1
Published dates Centre controlled Fixed global date
Statement of Results Normally 1 to 2 weeks Normally 4 to 6 weeks
Certificate Normally 3 to 4 weeks Normally 7 to 9 weeks
Writing input Keyboard Pen and paper

The digital parts are completed on a computer, but Cambridge's digital exam guidance explicitly separates the Speaking test from those computer-delivered components. Do not interpret “digital” as speaking to software.

For the speaking-level comparison, see B2 First versus C1 Advanced Speaking and Cambridge speaking criteria by level. Use Cambridge's own digital and paper sample tests for the exact interface.

Cities and authorised exam centres

Six German cities appear in September:

  • Berlin: September 5, 9 and 19 at GLS Sprachenzentrum Berlin.
  • Frankfurt: September 12 and 23 at Eloquia.
  • Dortmund: paper exam on September 12 at Auslandsgesellschaft.de.
  • Cologne: digital exam on September 12 at Englisches Institut Koln.
  • Munich: digital exam on September 12 at Cambridge Institut Munchen.
  • Stuttgart: digital exam on September 19 at Anglo-German Institute.

The Cambridge centre database explains that authorised centres can run exams in locations other than their registered base. Confirm the actual test venue rather than navigating to the organisation's office from its name alone.

Germany-specific study routes also differ in what proof they accept. Our guides to bachelor degrees in Germany in English, masters degrees in Germany in English, and international students studying in Germany in English explain why a programme page must name the accepted certificate or exemption.

When the Speaking test happens

The German open-dates table publishes the main exam date but not each Speaking appointment. Cambridge tells candidates to ask the centre for its complete calendar, including the Speaking date.

Speaking can therefore be on the main date or on a nearby date chosen by the centre. That matters when booking train travel or accommodation between cities.

Ask the centre these questions before payment:

  1. What is the Speaking date and reporting time?
  2. Is the Speaking test paired with one or two other candidates?
  3. What identity document is required?
  4. Is the listed city also the final venue?
  5. When will the full Confirmation of Entry arrive?

C1 Advanced Speaking has four parts. Our separate guides cover the Part 1 interview, Part 2 long turn, Part 3 collaborative task, and Part 4 discussion.

For general speaking output between now and the appointment, start a free SpeakShark conversation and use official Cambridge tasks for exam-specific practice.

Result and certificate timeline

Cambridge's 2026 information for candidates gives two separate timelines:

Document Digital exam Paper exam
Statement of Results 1 to 2 weeks after exam 4 to 6 weeks after exam
Certificate 3 to 4 weeks after exam 7 to 9 weeks after exam

The Statement of Results is official and can be checked through Cambridge's Results Verification Service. A university or employer may therefore verify the online result before the physical certificate arrives, but the receiver decides what it accepts.

At C1 Advanced, scores 180 to 199 are certified at C1, 200 to 210 at C2, and 160 to 179 at B2. The exam is designed for C1, so a B2 certificate is a fallback outcome, not a C1 pass. The Council of Europe CEFR level descriptions explain the underlying proficiency scale but do not set a university's certificate rule.

For certificate longevity, read English certificate expiry compared. Cambridge qualifications do not expire, although a receiving institution can impose its own recency rule.

What if the September deadline has passed

The fixed paper calendar lists the next C1 Advanced dates after September 12 as:

  • October 17.
  • November 14.
  • November 25.
  • November 28.
  • December 5.
  • December 12.

Digital centres can add other dates. The German open-dates table already showed October digital listings in Cologne, Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt when checked. Search the current centre page rather than waiting automatically for the next paper date.

If C1 is not the required level, compare the qualification ladder first. The C2 Proficiency Speaking format covers the higher exam, while CEFR speaking levels explains what B2, C1 and C2 represent.

How to register with a German centre

Cambridge candidates register through an authorised centre, not through one universal Cambridge checkout.

Use this sequence:

  1. Confirm the receiving organisation accepts C1 Advanced.
  2. Choose paper or digital.
  3. Select a German city and deadline from the open-dates table.
  4. Contact the named centre using the official Cambridge link.
  5. Ask for fee, final venue, Speaking date and identity rules.
  6. Submit the centre's entry and payment before its deadline.
  7. Retain the Confirmation of Entry and result login details.

If the certificate supports a German university application, compare the programme's stated language evidence with the best English-taught universities in Germany and study in Germany in English for free. Do not book C1 solely because it is available.

How we researched this guide

We checked Cambridge English's official open examination dates, global exam calendar, C1 Advanced format page, centre finder guidance and 2026 candidate information on August 28, 2026.

We counted only German C1 Advanced listings in September. That produced nine centre listings across five dates, six cities and eight registration deadlines. We separated the fixed paper calendar from centre-controlled digital sessions.

We did not infer fees, Speaking dates or available seats because Cambridge leaves those to local centres. We also did not copy real exam questions or unofficial preparation material.

We are a speaking improvement tool. We are not an exam preparation provider, and we are not affiliated with Cambridge English, the IELTS partners, Pearson or any exam board. For test format, booking and official practice material, go to the exam body directly. Use SpeakShark to make your spoken English stronger, and use official material to learn the test.
