Deloitte HireVue Interview 2026: Format and Prep
Deloitte UK confirms video responses inside its Job Simulation but not HireVue or fixed timers. Learn the current 2026 stages, evidence and prep plan.

Deloitte UK confirms that its early careers Job Simulation includes work-based scenarios, option ranking, written responses, and recorded video responses. It does not name HireVue, Cappfinity, a fixed timer, a question count, or a retry setting on the current assessment page. Candidates often search for a "Deloitte HireVue interview," but the verified intent is the recorded section of the UK Job Simulation. This guide keeps Deloitte UK, Deloitte US interview advice, general HireVue specifications, and third-party estimates separate so one source cannot silently become a companywide rule.
Key takeaways
- Deloitte UK calls this stage the Job Simulation and confirms recorded video responses alongside ranking and writing tasks.
- Deloitte does not name HireVue or another vendor on the official UK pages checked for this guide.
- Deloitte UK does not publish a universal Job Simulation duration, video timer, question count, retry setting, or pass score.
- The current UK assessment page says practice questions are available at the start and results arrive by email within four weeks.
- Current UK early careers opening dates begin in September and vary by business area, while applications can close early when volume is high.

Deloitte UK's academic-year rule makes the official practice especially important. Use the Candidate Zone and the practice questions at the start before submitting a real response.
For the wider platform mechanics that apply at every employer using recorded video, our complete HireVue interview guide covers the same ground without the Deloitte specifics.
Where the video round sits in the Deloitte process
Deloitte's published early-careers funnel runs in stages, and the recorded video is not the first hurdle.
- Online application: the form, eligibility, and programme choice.
- Immersive Online Assessment: work scenarios, preferred working style, numerical reasoning, and verbal reasoning.
- Job Simulation: behavioural work scenarios with ranked options, written responses, and recorded video responses.
- Final Stage Assessment: the next assessment stage for candidates who progress.
- Outcome: Deloitte says it emails the Job Simulation result within four weeks.
Two implications follow from that ordering.
First, the recorded response is only one input. The Job Simulation also includes ranking and writing tasks, so preparation should not focus exclusively on camera delivery.
Second, the invitation controls the deadline. Read it early enough to request an adjustment, complete the official practice, and solve technical problems before the submission window closes.
Deloitte also publishes a Candidate Zone for assessment practice and preparation. Use the official material before paid question banks or forum reconstructions.
The current UK opening-date page makes September especially relevant. It lists September 21 for Scotland opportunities, September 28 for Audit and Assurance, and September 28 or October 5 for different Actuarial roles. Deloitte warns that dates can change and applications may close early when submission volume is high.
What HireVue means at Deloitte and why the vendor matters
Search demand says "Deloitte HireVue interview," while Deloitte UK's official pages say "Job Simulation." The search phrase does not prove the current vendor.
HireVue is one platform that can deliver recorded video interviews and assessments. A candidate may use the brand name generically or may have seen a specific interface. Neither possibility establishes Deloitte UK's current provider for every programme.
Here is what we could and could not verify:
- Verified: Deloitte's UK early careers assessment page states that in the Job Simulation "you'll be asked to provide written responses and record video responses." Recorded video is confirmed by Deloitte.
- Not verified: which platform serves it. JobTestPrep describes the simulation as "composed in the HireVue style" without naming HireVue as the current administrator. GraduatesFirst attributes it to Cappfinity, the provider generally credited with Deloitte's Immersive Online Assessment. Deloitte names neither.
Why this matters practically: timer, retry, integrity, and submission controls can differ by platform and employer configuration. Do not optimize around a secondary-source timer. Build concise examples, then adapt them to the limits displayed in the Job Simulation.
If a future invitation explicitly names a HireVue scored video assessment, HireVue's current AI in hiring page says the system evaluates response transcripts rather than facial, video, or audio features. That is useful platform information, but it remains conditional because Deloitte does not name HireVue or AI scoring on the UK Job Simulation page.
The format: timings, prep time and answer length
The source comparison explains why an exact Deloitte timer cannot be defended from public evidence.
| Source (checked August 2026) | Questions | Prep time | Answer length | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deloitte UK, early careers assessment | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated |
| TargetJobs (17 Apr 2025) | "Several" video questions | Not stated | 30 sec to 2 min | ~40 min simulation |
| JobTestPrep | 5 per graded section (mixed types) | Practice recording offered first | "Up to 2 minutes long and no shorter than 30 seconds" | ~40 min |
| GraduatesFirst | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | 40 to 60 min (FAQ: 45 to 90) |
| HireVue candidate FAQ (platform-general, vendor unconfirmed) | Most have 5 to 8 | Employer-controlled | Several minutes | Most under 20 to 30 min |
Do not merge those rows into a synthetic "typical Deloitte format." They describe different sources, product assumptions, and possibly different hiring cycles. Use a two-minute practice constraint if it helps you become concise, but label it as practice rather than a prediction.
Three practical rules follow from the evidence.
Use preparation time to choose evidence, not draft prose. When the screen reveals the timer, identify the example, your own action, and the result before recording begins.
Follow the actual controls. A HireVue walkthrough from 2014 cannot establish Deloitte's current buttons or automatic-start behaviour. Read the live screen before continuing and stop once the answer is complete if the interface permits it.
Use Deloitte's practice questions. The current UK assessment page confirms practice questions at the start. It does not publish an unlimited count, so use the available practice to check the technology and response flow.
If setup is the weak link, Deloitte US publishes video interview tips: charge or plug in the device, place the camera around eye level, light from the front, avoid a bright source behind you, choose a quiet area, and turn off notifications. If the invitation explicitly names HireVue, its candidate FAQ recommends at least 350 Kbps upload and download.
Competencies Deloitte recommends for interview stories
Deloitte US publishes general interview preparation around leadership, communication, managing ambiguity, and balancing priorities and recommends the STAR structure. That page is useful for building stories, but it does not say these are the four scored dimensions of the UK Job Simulation. Treat them as a preparation framework, then prioritise the strengths and behaviours named in your own programme materials.
Layer on Deloitte's five shared values, sitting under its purpose "to make an impact that matters":
- Lead the way
- Serve with integrity
- Take care of each other
- Foster inclusion
- Collaborate for measurable impact
Use those two lists to build several genuine examples from your own life. Connect each example to a competency and value only where the link is real. Practise concise delivery, then adjust to the response limit shown in the Job Simulation.
Original practice prompts. The questions below were written for rehearsal. They are not copied from a question bank and are not Deloitte's live questions:
- Tell me about a time you had to make progress on a task before the goal was fully defined.
- Describe a situation where you had to explain something technical to someone outside your field.
- Give an example of a time you were responsible for a piece of work that failed. What did you do next?
- Walk me through a week where two people needed your time for competing priorities.
- Tell me about a time you spoke up when it would have been easier to stay quiet.
- Why this service line specifically, and what would you want to be doing in three years?
For motivation prompts, connect one specific feature of the service line to evidence from your experience and a realistic next step. A reusable paragraph about Deloitte as a whole will not answer every role-specific question.

What candidates report, including the Deloitte HireVue Reddit threads
Candidate reports can help you recognize possible interfaces, but they must be matched to the country, programme, and year before they influence preparation.
- Member firms use different processes. A UK early careers report cannot establish a US experienced-hire or Deloitte USI route.
- Hiring cycles change. A report from 2022 may describe a retired stage or interface.
- Vendor claims conflict. Secondary guides naming HireVue and Cappfinity cannot both prove one universal current configuration.
- Experience is not policy. One person's timer or retry option belongs to that invitation unless Deloitte publishes it more broadly.
Deloitte UK's current page supplies a stronger answer about waiting time than a forum does: applicants receive a Job Simulation result email within four weeks. Use the Early Careers Helpdesk when that official window passes or a technical problem affects submission.
For an unpublished timer, retry setting, question count, vendor, or deadline, use the invitation or ask the Deloitte helpdesk. A forum cannot answer reliably for your programme and cycle.
Deloitte UK's current Integrity and AI guidance is also relevant. Deloitte says paid assessment-insight sites are not endorsed and may provide misleading information, while using supplied answers breaches its integrity guidance. Use AI for general preparation only within the published rules, and contact the adjustments team before using an AI tool as an accessibility aid.
The same reasoning applies at every Big Four firm, which is why our Big Four HireVue guide compares the published stages side by side instead of pooling forum claims, and why our write-ups of the Unilever and Emirates versions of this round keep each employer's evidence separate.
Retakes, technical failures and reapplying
The current Deloitte UK pages establish the following boundaries:
- Re-recording is unpublished. Follow the Job Simulation screen rather than a HireVue or forum setting.
- Technical failures belong with Deloitte support. Keep the candidate ID and use the Early Careers Helpdesk instead of creating another application.
- Practice questions are available. Deloitte confirms them at the start but does not publish an unlimited count.
- Reapplying has a clock. Deloitte UK's early careers FAQ states: "We only accept one application per programme, per academic year (September-August). If you are unsuccessful, you are welcome to reapply in the following year."
- Adjustments are stage-specific. Deloitte's current FAQ lists extended response and preparation time, the option not to see yourself on screen, communication support, and platform familiarisation for video interviews. Request support early because adjustments are reviewed for each stage.
There is also a quieter positive: Deloitte says that after the assessment "you'll receive a feedback report about your strengths," while noting it "isn't the outcome of your assessment." Most employers give you nothing. Read it.
A 10-day prep plan that trains speaking, not scripts
This ten-day plan improves familiarity and delivery. It cannot replace missing work examples, role research, or long-term language development.
Days 1 to 2: build the story bank. Write several bullet-point stories from your own experience. Cover leadership, communication, managing ambiguity, balancing priorities, and programme-specific strengths. Use outlines rather than full scripts so each example can adapt to a different prompt.
Days 3 to 4: practise aloud. Use fifteen minutes of unscripted speaking per day to identify vague actions, missing results, and difficult terminology. A free SpeakShark session can support this routine. If camera anxiety is the blocker, use our guide to overcoming the fear of speaking English.
Days 5 to 6: use a practice timer. Two minutes is a useful rehearsal constraint, not a predicted Deloitte limit. Keep the situation brief, describe your actions clearly, and give the result with a number only when you genuinely have one.
Days 7 to 8: add responsive role play. Recording catches delivery, while a responsive scenario tests adaptation. Use SpeakShark Role Play or our five job-interview role-play scenarios, then return to one-way recording for the actual Job Simulation format.
Day 9: fix recurring clarity problems. Review employer names, technical terms, and numbers that become unclear under time pressure. Drill them inside full sentences rather than only in isolation.
Day 10: full simulation. Use the actual device, room, microphone, and lighting. Follow Deloitte's setup guidance and use the practice questions available at the start. Read the live rules before moving into the assessed responses.
If the recorded round is only one of several English hurdles in front of you, our free English speaking level test gives you an honest baseline first, and our guide to office small talk in English covers the human rounds that come afterwards.
When this is the wrong prep for you
An honest guide names where its own advice stops working.
If your English is around A2 or low B1, ten days will not resolve the language gap. A longer speaking routine is more realistic where the application timeline allows it. Request an adjustment early if the timed recorded format creates an accessibility barrier.
If your problem is content, not delivery, this is not your bottleneck. Some candidates speak beautifully and have nothing concrete to say because they have never audited their own experience. Fix the story bank first; speaking practice will not manufacture examples you do not have.
If the final-stage assessment is close, prepare for it as well. Recorded-response practice does not cover live follow-up questions or every final-stage task. Split preparation according to the stages and dates in your Candidate Zone.
If you need a specific exam score, use official exam material. Conversation practice builds speaking ability but does not teach an exam format. Our Versant test guide applies that distinction to a language assessment.
And if scenario rehearsal is what you actually need, the technique generalises well beyond interviews. Our guide to English role-play scenarios for speaking practice covers the method itself.
How we researched this guide
We rechecked the Deloitte UK assessment, FAQ, application timeline, and integrity pages on August 28, 2026. We treated them as evidence for UK early careers only. Deloitte US interview advice is labelled separately, and general HireVue features are not used to infer Deloitte's vendor or configuration.
Primary Deloitte sources: the UK early careers assessment page for the process, Job Simulation content, practice questions, four-week result window, feedback report, and adjustments; the UK early careers FAQ for one application per programme per academic year and current stage-specific support; the UK opening-date page for September and October openings plus early closure; Deloitte US interview preparation for the four story themes and STAR; and the shared values page for the five values.
Primary HireVue sources, used conditionally: the candidate FAQ for current general ranges and technical minimums, and AI in hiring for current transcript-scoring claims. These sources explain HireVue only. They do not prove that Deloitte UK uses HireVue.
Candidate-facing secondary sources, treated as claims rather than facts: TargetJobs, GraduatesFirst, and JobTestPrep. Their duration and vendor claims conflict, so the comparison table preserves attribution instead of choosing one as Deloitte policy.
What we deliberately did not do: we did not infer a vendor, timer, retry setting, question count, or AI score from a search phrase or third-party guide. We also did not reproduce a Deloitte question bank. The practice prompts are original rehearsal examples.
SpeakShark is a speaking-improvement tool, not an exam-prep provider, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by HireVue, Cappfinity, Deloitte, or any other employer named on this page.
